The Apothetae had a fantastic reading of Good Dancer by Emily Chadick Weiss at the JCC in Manhattan yesterday, as part of the Sixth Annual Reelabilities Film Festival! Good Dancer deals with the intersection between Race and Disability in the "era of Obama." The discussions that resulted in our rehearsals and following the reading we're fascinating and informative. ReelAbilities: NY Disabilities Film Festival is the largest festival in the country dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expression of people with different disabilities.
Good Dancer tells the story of a white young professional with Cerebral Palsy, his African American Republican girlfriend, and the meeting of their parents before the couple sets off to Hong Kong for what could be the beginning of the rest of their lives—if their parents approve… Good Dancer will be presented at the JCC in Manhattan on Saturday March 8th at 230pm.
